Job summary

Malone Center in Lincoln, NE seeks an Assistant Director of the Out of School (OOS) program. This role leads execution of daily and weekly plans, supervises staff, and ensures quality and safety in K-8 after-school and summer programs.

You will convert the Director’s design into actionable plans, manage data and compliance, and partner with families and schools. A path to program directorship is evident through training and performance feedback.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, youth development, social work, recreation, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience in youth development, after-school programming, childcare, or summer programming, including at least one year of supervisory or lead responsibility.
• In lieu of a degree, five years of progressively responsible experience in a school-age youth program, including supervisory experience, will be considered.
• Demonstrated experience serving children and families from marginalized and under-resourced communities.
• Working knowledge of child and youth development for elementary and middle school students.
• Knowledge of CACFP, licensed childcare operations, subsidy programs, and health and safety requirements preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to coach and develop staff and hold others accountable to clear standards.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with computer systems, online portals, recordkeeping, email, and reporting tools.
• Ability to pass a preemployment background check and fingerprinting.
• Valid Nebraska driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Professional appearance and conduct when representing the Malone Center.

Responsibilities

• Champion the Malone Center mission, vision, and values in all engagements.
• Translate the Director’s program design into weekly activity plans, staffing, and daily schedules.
• Oversee consistent delivery of academic support, enrichment clubs, recreation, and youth development activities.
• Conduct program-quality observations, document findings, and lead follow‑up coaching.
• Ensure program spaces are prepared, safe, welcoming, and ready for students.
• Monitor staff-to-student ratios and adjust placements for proper supervision.
