Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a mission-driven Program Director for after-school operations in New York City public schools. You will oversee program staff, ensure quality, and manage day-to-day operations to meet contract requirements and NY Edge standards.

In this full-time, in-person role, you’ll lead staff development, coordinate activities, monitor compliance, and collaborate with school leaders to deliver engaging STEM, arts, sports, and wellness programs for 40,000+ students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
• At least 18 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience in urban education, youth development or community organizing with at least one (1) year supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversees program staff, program operations, services, and implements programs and/or processes to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance.
• Conducts staff performance evaluations and development plans with the Program Manager and Human Resources Department.
• Provides weekly and monthly team meetings that encourage opportunities for team feedback and discussions about classroom management, lesson planning, writing prompts, and social-emotional learning.
• Communicates regularly with supervisor on program updates, progress, and needs.
• Coordinates outreach to the community and presents on the program to actively recruit participants.
• Prepares various documents and reports (e.g., attendance, daily activities, daily program content, program design, etc.) for internal and external reporting.
• Provides weekly individual supervision to each staff member with feedback, goal setting, and assessment of competencies in the role.
• Supports all team members, including in-direct reports, and provides feedback as needed.
• Collaborates with the Program Manager, Borough Director, and New York Edge Curriculum and Training Departments to develop and implement monthly all-staff professional development workshops/seminars.
• Collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principals on program delivery to align with goals with student achievement and performance.
• Monitors and ensures all program compliance, including but not limited to student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, and building permits.
