Job summary

Urbana Middle School in Urbana, Illinois is seeking After School Programming Support Staff to assist with student activities after the regular school day. The role involves supervising students, supporting teachers, and helping with small-group skill-building sessions.

Responsibilities include reteaching, de-escalation, attendance tracking, and maintaining positive relationships with students and staff. The position runs September 8, 2026 to April 29, 2027, on a Tuesday through Thursday

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree or 60 hours of college credit required.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working in a school setting.
• Prior experience working for USD 116 Afterschool Program is preferred.
• Internal applicants only.
• De-escalation strategies, SEL, and relationship-building skills.
• Leadership skills.
• Self-initiative and active engagement throughout the day.

Responsibilities

• Answer questions and provide a reteach of information to students participating in the program.
• Actively participate in the program, contribute to daily instruction, and complete all assigned tasks.
• Initiate and encourage students attending the program and maintain positive relationships with students and staff.
• Ask for guidance from the teacher/coordinator when unable to assist a student.
• Monitor and supervise students within assigned areas of the school.
• Support positive approaches for dealing with student behavior and use de-escalation strategies.
• Arrive and depart on time for scheduled work.
• Work with small groups on skill-building activities.
• Perform other duties such as attendance and program logistics.
