Job summary

Neighborhood House, Inc. in Portland is seeking a Program Leader to support an after-school program for ages 5-12. This temporary, 30 hours/week role develops and teaches curriculum, supervises activities, and may act as substitute program coordinator when needed.

The ideal candidate is reliable, flexible, and capable of managing licensing requirements, PBIS guidelines, and family communications while collaborating with the Program Coordinator to ensure a safe, engaging environment.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must currently have or be able to obtain and maintain registration in the Oregon Central Background Registry (CBR).
• Knowledge of childhood development and K-5th grade education.
• GED required, AA degree preferred, or ORO Step 6.
• 1 year of experience with children in a licensed facility or comparable program.
• Reliable transportation.
• Experience writing and teaching curriculum.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Develop curriculum and activities for the after-school program with 5-12 year olds.
• Work with 15:1 ratio, assist with homework, group activities, and recess.
• Collaborate with Program Coordinator to plan lessons and activities.
• Participate in team meetings and ensure site readiness.
• Communicate with parents at drop-off and pick-up.
• Adhere to licensing regulations and school rules.
• Assist with payments and paperwork to admin office and maintain licensing compliance.
• Train and support new staff and substitute as needed.
• Respond to emails and calls professionally and promptly.
• Oversee and train other teachers; lead site in Coordinator's absence.
