Job summary

Decatur Family YMCA is hiring a part-time School Age Childcare teacher in Decatur, IL. You will supervise children, implement the program curriculum, and maintain a safe, nurturing environment to foster growth in literacy, social skills, and physical activity.

The role requires completing required trainings, maintaining attendance records, and communicating with parents daily. The position emphasizes teamwork, core values, and consistent lesson planning to support families in our community.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
• Prefer some previous experience in a preschool or day care setting.
• Must provide 3 letters of references.
• Must complete a Health physical and TB testing and renew every 2 years.
• Must complete trainings, including: Child Abuse Prevention Training, Blood Borne Pathogens Training, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Training, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED.
• Maintain 15 hours of in-service training per year as required by DCFS.
• Must have good organizational skills.
• Must possess good language skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students in the program and manage attendance.
• Prepare site setup before first student and maintain until last student leaves.
• Inspect and clean program areas before and after use.
• Maintain attendance and food program records.
• Address and document all behavior issues.
• Submit weekly lesson plans and supply lists 2 weeks in advance.
• Incorporate the four core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
• Engage students with at least 30 minutes of homework or reading daily.
• Include two educational activities weekly and a monthly service project.
• Provide daily communication with parents about activities and schedule changes.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
