Job summary

Bay Area Community Resources is seeking a Part-time, non-exempt program support role for Expanded Learning Programs at school sites in California. You will engage students after school, help with SEL, and collaborate with families and school staff to create a safe, inclusive environment.

Overview

Position details: Part-time, non-exempt before and after-school program support for Expanded Learning Programs (EXL) at school-based sites. Reporting to the EXL Program Coordinator. Benefits and compensation are based on regional grant funding and experience.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships and a sense of belonging for students who are disengaged or struggling, through consistent connection and proactive support.
• Support students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) using relationship-building, restorative practices, de-escalation, and co-regulation strategies.
• Address conflicts, bullying, exclusion, and behavioral concerns using culturally responsive, restorative approaches.
• Recognize when students need support beyond the program’s capacity and communicate concerns to the coordinator.
• Build respectful, professional relationships with families and caregivers while maintaining confidentiality and acknowledging them as partners in student success.
• Participate in training, coaching, staff meetings, and professional development; apply feedback to improve practice.
• Use student engagement and behavior data to refine lessons and improve outcomes.
• Engage in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes as outlined in the EXL Handbook.
• Provide homework support and skill-building activities; adapt instruction to meet students’ needs.
• Use required digital platforms and communication tools (Workday, Workvivo, Google Drive, email) effectively and independently.
• Design and facilitate inclusive, culturally responsive activities that support diverse backgrounds, abilities, and developmental needs through trauma-informed practices.
• Collaborate with program staff, school personnel, and team members to support program goals; foster an equitable and inclusive environment with respectful communication and awareness of personal and systemic biases.
• Demonstrate self-awareness, acknowledge mistakes, seek support when needed, and respond constructively to challenges.
• Arrive on time and prepared with materials, lesson plans, and classroom routines; maintain attendance and incident reports and required documentation; uphold professional boundaries and ethical conduct.
• Notify the coordinator immediately of safety incidents, behavioral concerns, or mandated reporting situations; communicate concerns before issues escalate.
• Handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality; attend required professional development and represent the program professionally at sites.
• Bring energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude to program activities; plan and facilitate engaging, student-centered lessons integrating academic and SEL development.
• Provide specific, genuine praise recognizing students’ effort, persistence, and growth; promote student voice, leadership, and shared decision-making.
• Contribute to a positive program culture and collaborative team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher, or 48 college units, or successful passage of the Instructional Aide exam.
• Criminal background check and TB clearance completed successfully.
• Ability to work after-school hours and commit through the academic year (hire date through mid-June).
• Experience working with K–12 youth in educational, enrichment, or community-based settings.
• Ability to build positive relationships with youth from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Mandated Reporter certification and other required trainings completed.
• Ability to independently supervise and engage up to 22 youth.
• Basic proficiency with email, Google Drive, and other program management platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, or a related field.
• Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Chinese, or other languages).

Work Environment and Compensation

Location: School-based program sites. Schedule: Part-time (approximately 22 hours per week; hours negotiated upon hiring). Pay rate: $23.50 per hour, based on regional grant funding and experience. Up to 15 paid holidays per year. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, transit/parking assistance, and a 403(b) plan (eligibility based on total weekly hours).
