Job summary

Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic After-School Instructors to support children in NW DC during the 2025-2026 school year. The position runs Monday through Friday, 3:00–6:00 PM, for PreK 3 to 5th grade.

You will lead engaging activities, supervise homework, monitor safety, and foster an inclusive, bully-free environment. Attendance and performance-based raises are part of the role, with opportunities for extra hours during DCPS closings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• At least 1 year experience in childcare.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience and ability to handle various learning abilities.
• Good references from previous employers.
• DCPS background check required.

Responsibilities

• Engage and teach children various activities, such as arts and crafts, STEM, homework and monitor playground and snack time.
• Ensure safety, inclusivity and prevent bullying during the program hours.
• Adhere strictly to assigned schedules and notify any errors or inconsistencies.
• Take attendance during every transition.
• Manage student allergies and medical needs.
• Follow protocols for inclement weather, ensuring activities are engaging and screen-free.
• Monitor bathroom breaks.
• Resolve minor behavioral issues by fostering peaceful resolutions.
• Report conflicts and incidents promptly to the Program Coordinator and complete incident reports.
• Set up, clean and store activity materials in assigned spaces.

Capitol Language Services (CLS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as After-School Instructors for SY 2025-2026. As an After-School Instructor, you will play a crucial role in providing a supportive and engaging environment for children during their after-school hours. We work with children PreK 3 - 5th grade.

Please note this position starts August 24, 2026 - this is not a summer position.

Location

You will be assigned to ONE of our 3 locations in NW DC.

Pay: $19.00 per hour
