  • Experience developing and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans and experiential learning activities in formal or informal educational settings.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee quality of homework support and coach staff on strategies that build independence and positive learning habits.
  • Promote SEL principles and WHEDco’s whole-child approach throughout programming.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for program staff in areas like lesson planning and instructional strategies.
  • Model effective instructional practices and provide coaching based on observations and program evaluation.
  • Maintain and oversee the program library and ensure resources are accessible and appropriate.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure quality and consistency of programming and participate in leadership meetings.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with school staff to align after-school programming with student needs.
  • Assist with general supervision, student engagement, behavior management, and events as needed.
  • Support program assessment, documentation, reporting, and evaluation.
  • Fulfill the DYCD Content Specialist duties, including content oversight and collaboration with leadership.

Job Summary:

The Education Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and ongoing quality of academic programming within WHEDco’s Middle School After-School Program at The Highbridge Green School. The Education Coordinator oversees ELA, STEM, and homework support programming, ensuring that educational activities are engaging, developmentally appropriate, responsive to the needs and interests of participating youth, and aligned with WHEDco’s commitment to fostering curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

The Education Coordinator directly supervises ELA and STEM Activity Specialists and supports their development as educators through collaborative planning, lesson-plan review, regular observations, coaching, modeling, and professional development. Working closely with program leadership and instructional staff, the Education Coordinator helps guide the academic curriculum and establishes consistent expectations for high-quality, hands-on learning experiences.

The Education Coordinator also strengthens homework support by training and coaching Group Leaders and Youth Workers in effective academic-support practices and promotes the integration of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles throughout educational programming.

In addition to providing academic leadership, the Education Coordinator supports general program supervision and operations, participates in weekly supervisory and program leadership meetings, and contributes to the ongoing professional development of program staff.

Responsibilities
  • Working in conjunction with the Program Director and Assistant Director, the Education Coordinator will:
  • Guide the academic vision and curriculum for ELA, STEM, and homework support programming, ensuring activities align with program goals, youth needs, and WHEDco’s educational approach.
  • Directly supervise ELA and STEM Activity Specialists, including facilitating regular planning meetings, reviewing lesson plans, conducting observations, and providing ongoing coaching, feedback, modeling, and support.
  • Support staff in developing engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate lessons that build academic skills while encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, exploration, and student choice.
  • Identify, develop, and share curriculum and instructional resources and facilitate collaborative planning and lesson-planning workshops to strengthen instructional practices and staff capacity.
  • Oversee the quality of homework support and coach Group Leaders and Youth Workers on effective strategies that strengthen students’ academic skills while building independence, confidence, and positive learning habits.
  • Promote the integration of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) principles and WHEDco’s strength-based, whole-child approach throughout academic programming and staff interactions with youth.
  • Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for program staff in areas such as lesson planning, instructional strategies, youth engagement, classroom management, SEL, homework support, and other identified areas of need.
  • Model effective instructional, classroom-management, and youth-development practices and provide hands-on coaching and support to staff based on observations, supervision, program evaluation, and identified areas for improvement.
  • Maintain and oversee the program library, ensuring that books, materials, and activities are organized, accessible, developmentally appropriate, engaging.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Assistant Director to support the overall quality and consistency of academic and enrichment programming and participate in weekly supervisory and program leadership meetings.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with school administrators, teachers, and other school-based partners to support alignment between after-school academic programming and the needs of participating students.
  • Assist with general program supervision, student engagement, behavior management, transitions, special events, and other program activities as needed.
  • Support program assessment, documentation, reporting, and evaluation, using observations and available program data to identify opportunities to strengthen program implementation and staff practice.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities and expectations associated with the DYCD Content Specialist designation, including supporting program quality through content oversight, observation, coaching, professional development, lesson-planning support, and collaboration with program leadership.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as directed by the Program Director or other appropriate supervisor.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required; Master’s degree or current enrollment in a graduate Education program a plus.

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback, coach staff, and support the ongoing development of instructional practice.
  • Creative, flexible, and able to adapt to the changing needs and priorities of an after-school program environment.
  • Experience working with children and families in low-income and/or historically underserved communities preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
