Job summary

Prospect Schools is seeking an after-school chess instructor to lead chess lessons, supervise up to 15 students, and mentor youth after the school day ends. You will teach rules, strategies, and gameplay while preparing students for in-school tournaments and encouraging growth through structured, engaging activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; chess credentials preferred.
• Availability to work late afternoons and/or evenings (3:00–6:30 p.m.).
• Experience in chess and youth programs or after-school settings preferred.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills; able to adapt to diverse learners.
• Successful background checks and clearances.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and engage up to 15 students after school.
• Plan engaging chess lessons and activities.
• Monitor progress and adjust instruction to individual needs.
• Foster inclusive, supportive classroom culture.
• Prepare materials, track attendance, and help with setup.
• Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Evaluate program effectiveness and adapt activities.
• Assist the After-School Program Director with additional duties.
