Job summary

Wizards of Chess in Bloomington, MN seeks an After School Chess Coach to inspire young minds through chess fundamentals and fun, after-school sessions.

You will plan age-appropriate lessons, monitor progress, and foster a positive classroom environment while maintaining safety and encouraging participation. Prior coaching or tutoring experience is preferred; background checks will be conducted. Join a team dedicated to building critical thinking through chess.

Qualifications

• Solid working knowledge of chess rules, tactics, and strategy.
• Prior experience working with children in a coaching, tutoring, or educational setting preferred.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach chess fundamentals, rules, and strategies to students of varying skill levels
• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate chess lessons and activities
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment
• Monitor student progress and adapt instruction to meet individual needs
• Organize and facilitate in-class chess tournaments and friendly competitions
• Maintain classroom order and ensure student safety during after-school sessions
• Communicate student progress and program updates to parents and school staff
