Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Welding Engineer for the Space Exploration Division to support NASA MSFC ESSCA contracts. The role focuses on manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion and friction stir welding, with emphasis on developing procedures and leading welding projects.

On-site work at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL, with responsibilities ranging from process development to technical reporting and collaboration with engineers and technicians.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering with welding focus or related field.
• Ability to obtain and maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles.
• Valid driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and complete defensive driving training.

Responsibilities

• Develop welding techniques, procedures, and equipment applications for fabrication of metals.
• Conduct R&D to test and improve welding processes and equipment.
• Prepare technical reports from R&D activities.
• Establish welding procedures for production and welding personnel.
• Evaluate new welding developments for application to production.
• Direct and coordinate inspections to ensure compliance with welding procedures.
• Exchange ideas and provide technical advice on welding matters.
• Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment/materials.
• Serve as project lead engineer on welding development projects.
• Help customers resolve welding manufacturing process issues.
