Job summary

Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) is seeking a welding engineer to support NASA EM32 Welding & Manufacturing at MSFC under the ESSCA contract. The role focuses on manufacturing large aluminum aerospace structures using fusion welding and friction stir welding, with responsibilities spanning technique development, R&D, and project leadership.

The position requires a BS with experience (or MS with experience), US citizenship, STAR ID, and ability to operate customer-owned vehicles.

Qualifications

• BS with at least 5 years of experience or MS with at least 3 years.
• U.S. Citizenship and STAR ID are required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles and complete defensive driving training.
• Welding and manufacturing experience with aluminum aerospace structures is preferred.
• Experience with MES or documenting manufacturing nonconformances is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop welding techniques, procedures and equipment applications for metal fabrication.
• Conduct R&D to develop and test welding processes and equipment.
• Prepare technical reports resulting from R&D activities.
• Establish welding procedures and guidelines for production and personnel.
• Evaluate new welding developments for application to production.
• Direct and coordinate inspections to ensure compliance with welding standards.
• Exchange technical information and advise on welding matters.
• Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
• Serve as project lead engineer on welding development projects.
• Assist other EM32 W&M team customers with welding manufacturing questions.
