Amentum Space Exploration Division seeks a qualified engineer to support the NASA EM32 Welding & Manufacturing team at MSFC under the ESSCA contract. You will develop fixture designs, jigs, and lifting tools, ensuring safe, repeatable manufacturing processes for aerospace hardware.

The role requires extensive experience in fixture concepts, alignment, and tooling development, with compliance to aerospace standards and safety certifications.

Formación

• BS in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from ABET accredited institution; equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum educational equivalent: BS with at least 5 years of experience or MS with at least 3 years of experience.
• Ability to obtain/maintain permission to operate customer-owned vehicles; valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
• Experience developing fixture design concepts, jigs and lifting/handling tools in aerospace manufacturing development environments.
• Familiarity with standards such as NASA-STD-5006, MSFC-SPEC-3679, ANSI/AWS D17.1/D17.1M, NASA-STD-8719.9, MPR 6430.1-1.
• Welding safety certifications required.

Responsabilidades

• Develop fixture design concepts to position and hold components during friction stir weld and/or fusion weld manufacturing operations.
• Design basic fixture structure and alignment methods for welding machines.
• Define fixture-to-part interfaces and fixture automation mechanics.
• Develop and maintain proper positioning and alignment of parts under process forces to meet manufacturing requirements.
• Ensure tool clearances for required operations; control fixture thermal characteristics.
• Develop jig design concepts and lifting/handling tools to support Welding & Manufacturing operations.
• Mentor junior engineers in modeling/analyzing fixtures, jigs, and tools; produce drawings, parts lists, assembly plans, and procedures.
• Represent the organization at technical meetings and conferences as needed.

Educación
