Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in welding/joining for aerospace/defense/high‑reliability hardware.
• Knowledge of AWS D17.1/D17.1M and ASME Section IX or equivalents.
• Experience creating/qualifying welding procedures and interpreting weld records.
• Strong welding metallurgy, joint design, heat treatment, distortion control, and failure mechanisms.
• Hands-on GTAW, GMAW, OTW and related processes.
• Ability to read drawings, weld symbols, certifications, and GD&T.
• Experience leading investigations and cross‑functional problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Develop, qualify, release welding procedures and qualifications (WPS, PQR).
• Serve as technical authority for flight and ground hardware welding.
• Review drawings, weld symbols, specifications for producibility.
• Control process variables, tooling, shielding, fit‑up, and heat treatment.
• Evaluate metallurgy, distortion, residual stress and material compatibility.
• Define inspection/acceptance plans with QA and NDE.
• Lead nonconformance investigations and corrective actions.
• Support fracture‑critical and pressure‑system reviews and FAI activities.
• Provide shop‑floor support, training, and mentorship to welders/engineers.
• Qualify external welding suppliers and maintain auditable records.
