Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Chula Vista, CA is seeking a Tool Design Engineer to develop, improve, and maintain manufacturing tools for advanced aerospace systems. You will work with Manufacturing, Stress, and Component Design teams to translate requirements into robust, user-friendly tools for assembling large Nacelle structures.

The role demands strong engineering fundamentals, CAD proficiency, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with at least 2 years of relevant experience
• 2+ years of CAD experience for mechanical design
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to understand complex engineering processes
• Experience with engineering package releases in PLM systems
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary and global teams
• Basic knowledge of GD&T

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain manufacturing tools to support production of Nacelle hardware
• Generate CAD models with GD&T callouts and drawing annotations
• Partner with aerospace engineers to understand requirements, improvements, and pain points
• Translate feedback from Tooling users into practical solutions
• Document tool functionality, requirements, design decisions, verification results, and user procedures
• Participate in design reviews, technical reviews, and continuous-improvement initiatives
• Ensure tools and engineering processes comply with company procedures, aerospace standards, quality requirements, and configuration-management practices
• Report status to project leaders and interface with internal customers
