Job summary

Boeing Defense, Space & Security in El Segundo, CA seeks an Experienced Thermal Product Design Engineer to design thermal products for space programs, applying mechanical and thermal analyses and leveraging 3-D CAD tools.

You will develop system requirements, document designs, manage supplier activities, and pursue new design approaches to meet program goals.

Candidates should have 5+ years in mechanical or aerospace engineering and be eligible for a US security clearance; relocation is possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
• 5+ years’ experience in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
• 3+ years’ experience with structural design or the design of mechanical sub-systems or components
• 3+ years of experience with subsystem engineering, including harness, thermal protection system, and/or prop feedlines/layout subsystems
• 1+ year of experience working with cross-functional or cross-organizational teams to develop and implement plans, schedules, or solutions
• 1 + year of experience with schedule and budget management, stakeholder communication, as well as understanding of execution of program planning to ensure cost, schedule and requirements are met
• 2+ years of experience with designing and installing multi-layer insulation blankets
• Effective time management, communication, technical writing, presentation development, facilitation, and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate and document mechanical and fluid system and thermal environment requirements to establish the system design
• Develop, maintain, or modify mechanical and fluid system, component and installation designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Engineering tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle
• Perform, integrate and document mechanical, fluid and thermal analyses and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
• Manage supplier development, test and production activities and coordinate with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals
• Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort
• Investigate emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
