Job summary

Virgin Galactic is seeking an experienced Structures Design Engineer to support the design, development, production, and sustainment of aerospace structures. Hybrid work arrangement available in Mesa, AZ or Tustin, CA (4 days onsite, 1 day remote).

Responsibilities include designing primary and secondary structures, creating 3D models and drawings, integrating vehicle systems, supporting manufacturing and flight operations, and ensuring compliance with GD&T, PLM, weight and cost targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 8+ years of aerospace design engineering experience.
• Experience designing aircraft/spacecraft primary and secondary structures.
• Strong CAD modeling experience, including composite structures.
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing creation.
• Experience with PLM systems, requirements management, and configuration control.
• Strong communication, technical writing, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop aircraft/spacecraft structural components and assemblies.
• Create and release 3D models, installations, and engineering drawings.
• Integrate vehicle systems into structural designs.
• Support manufacturing, testing, production, and flight operations.
• Resolve complex technical challenges and ensure compliance with design standards, weight, cost, and performance requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Participate in MRB activities, continuous improvement initiatives, and development of engineering processes and standards.
• Mentor team members and provide technical support to stakeholders.
