Job summary

Collier Aerospace in North Carolina is offering a collaborative internship focused on aerospace structures and software development. You will work with the Methods & Automations team to translate textbook analysis into HyperX-based tools and automate sizing processes for airframes and space vehicles.

You will gain hands-on experience with industry CAE software, scripting APIs, and teamwork in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• US citizen required.
• In-progress bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or Computer Science.
• Coursework in Statics, Strength of Materials, Composites, and FEA.
• Ability to perform structural analysis with metals and/or composites.
• Experience with classical stress analysis using standard methods.
• Knowledge of structural failure modes (strength, buckling, crippling).
• Experience in software development and teamwork; Git is a plus.
• Experience with C#, C++, Python or Fortran is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Learn and translate textbook analysis methods into code for the HyperX application.
• Learn and use HyperX and other CAE software for sizing and optimization of full airframes and space vehicles.
• Use scripting APIs to build tools, automate tasks, and improve processes.
• Perform trade studies for weight savings and part producibility; document results.
• Escalate urgent problems to software or engineering leads when needed.
