Job summary

Bascom Hunter seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support design, development, analysis, and testing of aerospace and defense systems. You will work with multidisciplinary teams across the development lifecycle, from early concept through prototyping, testing and documentation.

The role involves 3D modeling, mechanical design, and packaging using SolidWorks or CAD tools, plus collaboration on thermal, structural, and fluid analyses and experimental validation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Junior or Senior undergraduate standing preferred.
• Proficiency with CAD/3D modeling software; SolidWorks preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proficiency with MS Office.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and development of mechanical components, assemblies, and systems.
• Develop 3D models and packaging concepts using CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Support structural, thermal, and fluid analyses to optimize performance.
• Assist with thermal system and precision rotating machinery development.
• Conduct research and help formulate engineering solutions.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing of components.
• Assist with experiments, data collection, and interpretation of results.
• Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes for performance and weight.
• Support lab and test capability buildout and documentation.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, analysis reports, and test docs.
• Collaborate with lead engineers and cross-disciplinary teams on schedules.
