Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL seeks a Technician - Materials & Process to support thermal processing of aerospace hardware and heat-treatment across spaceflight systems. The role includes equipment installation, operation of vacuum furnaces, and pyrometry, with a focus on quality and documentation.

Applicants should have 3+ years in aerospace vacuum processing, familiarity with AMS 2750/2769, and be able to lift 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of aerospace vacuum thermal processing experience.
• 2 years technical college – or a minimum of 5 years on-the-job training with vacuum heat-treating furnaces.
• Understanding of vacuum system fundamentals and operation.
• Experience thermally processing aerospace materials such as stainless steel, copper, nickel, cobalt alloys, titanium wrought alloys, casting, and additive manufacturing.
• Familiar with pre and post-process testing such as hardness testing.
• Familiar with vacuum furnace preventative maintenance.
• Strong written and personal computer skills.
• Safety committed & conscientiousness.
• Calibration and pyrometry familiarity (AMS 2750 & AMS 2769).
• Physically able to climb ladders and stairs and lift and carry 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with specification, procurement, and installation of equipment.
• Operate and maintain vacuum furnaces, sub-systems, and ancillary equipment.
• Assist with process documentation and controls.
• Perform pyrometric testing and certification of vacuum furnace equipment.
• Design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro/mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light devices, or specialized test equipment.
• Work from schematics/diagrams to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting.
• Use testing equipment including oscilloscopes, signal generators, and other diagnostic tools.
