Job summary

Van-Am Defense Systems in Waverly, Iowa, is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and optimize precision manufacturing processes for aerospace components. You will design tooling, fixtures, and workholding, and create robust process documentation across BOMs and work instructions, while collaborating with production and quality teams to boost throughput.

The role requires a mechanical/industrial engineering degree and 5+ years in similar settings, with SolidWorks and ERP (Epicor) skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in manufacturing engineering in aerospace/defense or precision manufacturing.
• Experience with CNC machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and process development.
• Experience designing tooling, fixtures, and workholding.
• Solid CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred) and ERP experience (Epicor preferred).
• Knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 environments; ITAR knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision components.
• Design tooling, fixtures, and workholding to improve productivity and quality.
• Create and maintain process plans, BOMs, work instructions, and changes.
• Support CNC machining, forming, welding, assembly, and testing operations.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Engineering to improve throughput.
• Assist with quoting by evaluating methods and labor requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement focusing on quality, cost, and waste reduction.
• Ensure processes comply with AS9100 and customer specifications.
