Job summary

Vertical Laboratories LLC in Glendale, CA is seeking a Fiber Optic Test Engineer to manage challenging testing projects from start to finish, collaborating with technicians, QA staff, and customers to ensure exceptional results.

You will research standards, design and fabricate test equipment, and perform precise fiber optic measurements in aerospace environments, contributing to continuous process improvements and high-quality documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s preferred.
• MIL-DTL-28840, MIL-PRF-28876, MIL-PRF-29504 standards experience.
• LabVIEW programming experience is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), with the ability to chart and graph trends, create metrics, and track and monitor data.
• Excellent report writing and technical documentation skills.
• Strong organizational, presentation, and root cause analysis skills.
• Advanced mathematical aptitude and experience with data analysis/statistical methods.

Responsibilities

• Research test standards and create custom test plans tailored to customer needs.
• Stay current on best practices and explore new testing methodologies.
• Program and verify high-level equipment parameters for testing.
• Operate specialized test machinery, including vibration shaker, shock tester, temperature and humidity chambers, thermal shock chamber, salt spray chamber, tensile testers, and thermal vacuum chamber.
• Perform insertion loss and return loss measurements on fiber optic interconnects.
• Design, fabricate, and verify custom test equipment and setups.
• Work closely with Test Technicians and Quality Management Staff to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Conduct root cause and trend analysis to improve processes.
