Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville is seeking a Senior Lead Engineer to head a team of drafters and design engineers for the Transfer Stage Vehicle within the Lunar Permanence unit. The role focuses on creating, maintaining, and releasing CAD models and associated documentation.

You will recruit, hire, and mentor engineers, develop tools, manage plans, metrics, and risks, and communicate progress to leadership. Strong Creo/Windchill and GD&T experience required.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related technical subject area
• 10+ years directly related experience
• Experience with CAD (Creo), PLM (Windchill), and GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• In depth understanding of CAD modeling and engineering principles
• Track record of delivering complex products, on schedule and in budget
• Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills

Responsibilities

• Leading a team of designers in generating, integrating, and releasing CAD models
• Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor team
• Manage your team's professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management)
• Develop tools and processes to improve team capability and performance
• Develop robust plans meeting deliverables and manage to the key operating metrics - including technical, schedule, and risk
• Monitor technical progress, requirements, schedule, deliverables and risks as well as review recommendations for change with program management
• Communicate progress to leadership team
• Utilize good engineering and business judgement to ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered
