Job summary

Hytek Finishes in Kent, WA is seeking an Abrasive Blast Operator for the 3rd shift, onsite. This non-exempt, full-time role performs blasting to prepare parts for various finishes and may participate in FAA/DOT testing.

Training on 1st shift; 24/7 production with multiple shifts. Responsibilities include following instructions, preparing parts, using proper tooling, and ensuring quality with operator self-verification.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Shot Peen Inspectors to prioritize tasks for on-time delivery.
  • Follow technique cards, POs, drawings and maskant instructions.
  • Prepare parts and set up tooling/fixtures as needed.
  • Sign off on completed work and perform self-verification checks.
  • Review paperwork and verify prior operations; inform supervisor of issues.

Job Overview

Title: Abrasive Blast Operator - 3rd Shift

Reports to: VSM or Shift Supervisor

Location: Kent, WA - onsite

Type: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Schedule: 3rd Shift; Training on 1st Shift (Hytek production runs 24/7 with shifts: 1st shift Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm, 2nd shift 2:00pm-10:30pm, 3rd shift Sunday-Friday 10:00pm-6:30am)

Salary Range: $22.10 - $41.10 per hour. The pay range and total compensation package listed is the expected pay offered at start of employment. Position Summary

Employees in this position use a variety of media to blast parts in preparation for a variety of surface finishes. Blasters may be required to join the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) DOT Drug & Alcohol Testing Program. Blasters perform operations in accordance with Military, Industry and OEM specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with experienced Shot Peen Inspectors to complete work and prioritize tasks for on‑time delivery.
  • Follow technique card, customer Purchase Orders and drawings, and instructions from experienced operators; apply maskants as required.
  • Prepare parts prior to operations; use proper tooling and fixtures when applicable.
  • Legibly sign off on work once completed and operator self‑verification inspection has occurred.
  • General review of paperwork and operator self‑verification inspection of job to ensure all previous operations were completed. Notify supervisor and Quality Assurance if any errors.
  • Knowledge of pre and post‑cleaning surface finish requirements.
  • Familiar with Quality Assurance requirements & rework procedures.
  • Be familiar with engineering drawing notations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must have a regular and dependable attendance record.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English with other employees, customers, and auditors.
  • Required to participate in annual Hearing Conservation testing and Eye Exams.
  • Ability to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE based upon requirements in working area.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.; an export license will be required to work in all areas of the facility.
Education & Experience

1-2 years in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

  • Ability to lift occasionally: (floor to knee) 114 lbs., (waist to waist) 63 lbs., (floor, knee, to waist) 75 lbs., (waist to shoulder) 30 lbs.
  • Ability to carry 63 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull 59 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently.
  • Ability to sit occasionally.
  • Ability to reach from the shoulder and overhead occasionally and from the waist frequently.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, crawl occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull frequently.
  • Ability to pivot, twist, pinch occasionally.
  • Ability to grasp frequently.
  • Ability to see/hear/feel constantly – hearing protection required when working in the area.
Work Environment
  • Hearing protection required in certain areas.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.
  • Temperature fluctuations based on outdoor conditions.
  • PPE required: safety glasses/goggles, aprons, rubber boots, gloves, respirator (provided by company).
