Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services seeks an Advocate Counselor for Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service (Transfer School). The role involves counseling, case management and crisis intervention for over-aged, under-credited students in a DOE transfer school setting.

The position reports to the Program Director, is full-time, on-site at 300 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn, and requires a Bachelor's degree (MSW preferred) with background check.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; MSW Preferred.
• Experience and demonstrated case management support in working with youth and families.
• College preparatory experience required.
• Must have excellent time management, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
• Fingerprinting and background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic planning and case management services for a caseload of 40+ students.
• Provide weekly individual and daily group counseling, including facilitating an Advisory Group five days per week.
• Assist youth in attending school regularly by identifying obstacles and connecting students with resources.
• Assist youth with the development of actionable post-secondary plans.
• Provide immediate crisis intervention support as needed, including mediation support.
• Provide family outreach and conduct parent/guardian meetings as appropriate.
• Provide counseling and support services to families to improve communication and support.
• Document all work and keep case records on all students on caseload.
• Attend relevant DOE meetings and school calendar events.
• Assist with College application process.
