Job summary

SCO Family of Service is seeking a School Supportive Counselor to serve transfer high school students at East Brooklyn Community High School in Brooklyn, NY. The role is on-site two to three days per week and focuses on short-term, school-based support rather than ongoing therapy.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited program.
• Current New York State LMSW credential required.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) credential preferred.
• At least two years of post-graduate clinical experience with teens and families preferred.
• Experience applying intercultural communication with a culturally responsive lens preferred.

Responsibilities

• Document all student sessions and services in the DOE system.
• Provide short-term, school-based counseling to students.
• Engage students and explain the role of the Supportive Counselor and available support.
• Help students discuss academic concerns when needed.
• Build coping skills and positive decision-making in students.
• Meet with students in conflict or disengagement.
• Provide crisis intervention when appropriate within scope.
• Coordinate with DOE and SCO staff to respond to student needs.
