Job summary

Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service (inc) seeks an Advocate Counselor for Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service. You will provide counseling, case management, referrals, and crisis intervention to over-aged, under-credited adolescents within a DOE transfer school environment.

Responsibilities include academic planning, weekly counseling, attendance outreach, and post-secondary planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; MSW preferred.
• Experience and demonstrated case management support with youth and families.
• College preparatory experience required.
• Commitment to an inclusive environment that fosters community and belonging.
• Excellent time management, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
• Knowledge in trauma-informed practice is a plus.
• Willingness to be creative and work as an integral part of a team.
• Prior experience in a school setting.
• Must undergo pre-employment screenings such as Criminal Background Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic planning and case management for 40+ students.
• Weekly individual and daily group counseling; Advisory Group five days a week.
• Assist youth in attending school regularly; outreach and home visits.
• Develop actionable post-secondary plans with students.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed; mediation support.
• Outreach to families; conduct parent/guardian meetings.
• Support family communication to improve student well-being.
• Document all work and maintain case records.
