Job summary

South Dakota State University’s College of Nursing is seeking an Academic Advisor located in Brookings, SD. This 12-month, full-time role supports student growth, maintains records, and collaborates with college offices to promote student success.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Salary range is $52,000-$58,000 commensurate with qualifications, with full benefits.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree related to duties completed by date of application.
  • At least one year of experience in Counseling, Advising, Education, or other related field.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, and a willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Advise pre-nursing and nursing students, monitor academic performance, and track progress toward graduation requirements.
  • Conduct interviews with prospective students and facilitate evaluation of transfer credits for admitted students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing Student Services ( NSS ) on recruitment and retention activities, including orientation for students entering the major.
  • Verify academic standing for purposes related to financial aid and the Board of Nursing.
  • Assist with the distribution and review of applications for admission to the nursing major.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records in accordance with college requirements.
  • Coordinate with the NSS Program Assistant I to ensure timely communication with prospective and enrolled students.
  • Work closely with campus partners such as the Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid offices to support student success.

This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full‑time, benefits‑eligible position.
