Job summary

Northern Kentucky University is seeking an Advisor to meet with undergraduate students during scheduled and walk-in appointments, advise on courses, and participate in professional development training. About the Role

The advisor will meet with undergraduate students during scheduled and walk-in appointments; communicates with undergraduate students on advising issues; participates in Master Advising professional development training; generates and disseminates student reports; works within the HRIS system to review student information and help students register for classes; and serves on committees within the department and across the university.

  • Provideacademic advisingto newfreshmen, undecided/exploring, under-preparedstudentsand probationary students at Northern Kentucky University.
  • Providefollow-up with at risk students by effectively managing advising caseloads.
  • Assistwith the planning and delivery of academic orientation programs.
  • Createpresentations for students and other professionals on campus.
  • Implementthe office’s assessment plan for teachingadvisingstudent learning outcomes andmaintainaccurateand up-to-date student records.
  • Participatein university-sponsored professional development programs, the National Academic Advising Association and the Kentucky Academic Advising Association.
  • Serve on university committees as assigned by the director.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degreerequired; preferred qualifications are a master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, Education, or other academic discipline with experience in academic advising.
  • Minimum of twoyears academicadvisingexperience in a higher education setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Strong organizational, attention todetail,and exceptional communication skills arerequired.
  • Ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Valid driver’s licenserequiredand dependable vehicle. Some evening and weekend workisrequired.
