Employees in Bryan School Undergraduate Student Services specialize in academic goal setting, course selection, assisting with major and minor decisions, graduation planning, recommendation letters, and academic referrals. We build relationships with our students and partner with departments across campus to ensure that students have the answers they need.
In the Bryan School of Business & Economics, we create and disseminate knowledge about the theory and practice of business. In addition to our courses and research, we accomplish this through hands‑on projects, global experiences, and outreach to the community. Position Summary
The Academic Advisor position is a full‑time, 12‑month appointment reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Student Services in the Bryan School of Business and Economics. The primary areas of responsibility will be to serve as an Academic Advisor for assigned undergraduate majors; to plan, coordinate and participate in student services activities as assigned.
Academic Advising:
- Assist undergraduate majors assigned to the position, to include but not limited to course planning/selection, academic goal setting and development.
- Assist with freshman and transfer new student orientations as well as participate in advising and registration sessions for returning and readmitted students each semester.
- Participate in campus recruitment activities including weekly prospective student meetings, evening recruitment commitments and Student Orientation Advising and Registration ( SOAR ) sessions.
- Plan, coordinate, and assess current advising models to make recommendations on procedures, and practices to improve student services.
- Utilize technology to communicate with students in the most effective ways.
International Student Services:
- Lead recruiting efforts and promote all international experiences available to Bryan School students.
- Coordinate advising and support services for Bryan School students participating in international experiences, while providing training and guidance to advising staff and faculty on study abroad programs, international opportunities, policies, and procedures.
- Assisting with the coordination of special international exchange and study abroad programs.
- Manage the transfer credit evaluation and Global Experience/Foreign Language Waiver review processes, including receiving requests, coordinating departmental reviews, communicating decisions to students and advisors, and maintaining accurate records of all evaluations and outcomes.
- Serve as the primary Bryan School contact for incoming international exchange students by reviewing transcripts, determining appropriate course placements, facilitating enrollment in Bryan School courses, and communicating with students regarding course options, requirements, and registration processes.
- Work closely with the Global Engagement Office, the University Registrar’s Office, Student Academic Services, and other student services offices to assist students throughout their international experiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution; OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years of experience supporting student success initiatives in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations in a higher education environment.
- Experience in academic advising and/or developing and implementing programs, services, or initiatives that support student transition, success, retention, and graduation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to utilizing innovative advising practices and technology to enhance student engagement and success.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member and contribute positively to the mission and goals of the organization.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate complex initiatives and delegate responsibilities as appropriate.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field from an accredited four‑year college or university
- Experience working with Business majors or related fields
- Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Ellucian BANNER , Canva, and Canvas)
Recruitment Range
Recruitment Range $53,000 - $57,531 (salary contingent upon qualifications)

Majors Advising
- Advise assigned load of business major advisees, which includes a minimum of 1 meeting each semester to discuss major, academic progress, and career goals

International Student Services
- Lead recruitment and promotional efforts to increase student participation in study abroad, international exchange, and other global learning opportunities.
- Advise and coordinate support services for Bryan School students participating in international experiences, including study abroad and exchange programs.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and administration of international exchange and study abroad programs.
- Provide training and guidance to advising staff and faculty regarding international opportunities, processes, and program requirements.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Bryan School and international partner institutions, fostering collaborative relationships and supporting program initiatives.
- Collaborate with the International Programs Center, University Registrar, Student Academic Services, and other campus partners to ensure seamless support for students before, during, and after their international experiences.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and academic requirements related to international programs.
- Promote global engagement initiatives and contribute to the advancement of international education within the Bryan School.

Supplemental Advising and Support
- Provide supplemental advising assistance to students related to major/minor exploration, academic or financial aid appeals assistance, course selection, graduation plan tutorials, etc.
- Providing academic counseling to students flagged in Starfish, UNCG’s early warning system
- Serve as a drop‑in advisor during BUSS drop‑in hour
- Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate (within the parameters of FERPA )
- Refer students to appropriate campus and academic resources for additional support

- Participate in SOAR for the orientation, registration, and advisement of new exploratory freshmen and transfer students entering the University
