Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of annual giving appeals.
  • Build a pipeline of annual support for operating needs and special projects.
  • Develop annual giving messages and campaigns; inspire alumni giving.
  • Collaborate with Vice Chancellor for Advancement and other teams.
  • Make presentations to colleagues, Board and in one-on-one visits.

Job description

The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for an Advancement & Alumni Engagement Officer. The College is seeking an energetic individual who values the institution and has the skills to effectively communicate both in-person and through print, electronic and social media to key constituents. The successful candidate will have the ability to cultivate relationships with alumni and friends and engage them in the life of the College. Experience in social media strategies using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.; experience using email platforms such as Marketing Cloud; the ability to design creative collateral using Canva and other such programs and working collaboratively with advancement, athletics, marketing and communications to achieve fundraising goals are critical. The successful candidate will be able to make presentations to colleagues, Boards and in one-on-one visits.

The advancement & alumni engagement Officer will coordinate all aspects of annual giving appeals to incorporate academic and athletic appeals. This position is responsible for building a pipeline of annual support for the College's general operating needs and special projects; developing annual giving messages; inspiring alumni giving campaigns; instilling a culture of giving among the student body; and working in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and other advancement colleagues on various fundraising projects and advancement related activities.

A bachelor's degree is required; preference for Communications, Business and Marketing majors. Candidates must possess a high degree of initiative, integrity, excellent communication and writing skills. The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to meet measurable metrics are essential. Evening and weekend work, and travel, are required. Most travel is within a day's drive of the College with occasional overnight travel to visit with supporters.

This position is based in Wise, Virginia, situated in the far southwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders.

Anticipated Salary

$48,000 - $50,000; based on qualifications and experience
