Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Advanced Thermal Engineer is responsible for thermal testing, fundamental modeling, and thermal simulation to support thermal modeling, innovation, new product development, and bid support.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  1. Accurately interpolate test data and develop theoretical thermal models. Create performance rating programs and front-facing selection software.
  2. Provide thermal engineering expertise and support for New Product Introduction (NPI). Perform or oversee prototype testing and data reduction. Evaluate prototype behavior during NPI to identify deficiencies and potential improvements.
  3. Work in R&D labs on prototypes and product platforms to learn, troubleshoot, and innovate new product concepts.
  4. Support existing product lines with thermal technology, including enhancing unit selection software and assessing thermal performance for nonstandard configurations and installations.
  5. Identify opportunities for improving thermal performance through testing and data analysis, providing analysis and recommendations for enhancements.
  6. Monitor industry developments related to cooling tower performance, certification, and emerging technical areas.
  7. Represent the organization at relevant associations through committees, presentations, and showcases, aligning initiatives with organizational strategies.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  1. M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on heat & mass transfer, phase change principles, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
  2. At least 2 years of experience modeling heat transfer in HVAC/refrigeration system components.
  3. Preferably experience with analytical/theoretical modeling over CFD simulation.
  4. Proficient in engineering software and programming languages for computation.
  5. Good understanding of heat exchanger attributes and design processes.
  6. Experience in HVAC and refrigeration testing, with knowledge of pressure, temperature, and flow measurements, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  7. Strong documentation, reporting, communication, and presentation skills.
  8. Ability to independently apply engineering principles, with strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
  9. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, inquisitive, and proactive team player willing to collaborate.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands include standing and walking up to 40% of the time, occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds, and domestic/international travel up to 10%. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
