Job description

Astro Mechanica Propulsion Design Engineer

Astro Mechanica is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to join our expanding team. The ideal candidate is a versatile designer capable of taking full ownership of thermal system design from concept to production, with a deep understanding of their impact on surrounding systems. Technical challenges are approached from first principles. Your work will directly influence the thermal management and overall performance of the turboelectric adaptive jet engine.

Your mission will be to architect, build, and validate thermal systems from early prototypes through flight qualification, vehicle integration, and aircraft flight, embodying the test-like-you-fly philosophy.

Responsibilities:
  1. Generate CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, and apply GD&T standards.
  2. Architect thermal systems and develop 1-D fluid network models to predict behavior, transient responses, and sensitivities.
  3. Design and size fluid system components such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and regulators.
  4. Utilize hand calculations and CFD tools to optimize system effectiveness.
  5. Analyze heat loads, conduction paths, and interface temperatures; define instrumentation to validate models with test data.
  6. Lead and present design reviews to the team.
  7. Assemble prototypes, establish test procedures, and analyze data to verify requirements and performance metrics.
  8. Diagnose thermal system issues efficiently and determine corrective actions.
