Job summary

Keck Medicine of USC is seeking a Surgical Tech II in Los Angeles to support the operating room team under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. The role requires proficiency in aseptic technique, instrument preparation, patient safety, and intraoperative assistance across complex procedures including head/neck, neuro, spine, and ortho cases.

Mentorship of students and process-improvement contributions are expected.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technician program is required.
• 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technician or as an intern (paid) is required.
• Active practice as a Surgical Technician within the last 6 months.
• Demonstrates organization and time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• CST certification from CAAHEP/ABHES and BLS certification are required.
• LA City Fire Life Safety Training must be obtained within 30 days of hire where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties as an intermediate-advanced Surgical Tech, handling complex procedures (Head/Neck/Neuro/Spine/Ortho).
• Adheres to safety standards and aseptic techniques during all tasks.
• Maintains aseptic technique and corrects breaks promptly.
• Supports the surgical team during procedures and communicates patient status changes.
• Prepares OR and instruments; inventories and sterilizes equipment.
• Mentors students and participates in process-improvement initiatives.
• Transports and assists with intraoperative tasks as needed.
