Qualifications

• High School or equivalent required.
• Completion of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technician Program required.
• One year of surgical tech experience or paid Surgical Technician intern experience.
• Active practice as a Surgical Technician within the prior six months.
• Strong organization/time management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Surgical Technologist CST certification from CAAHEP/ABHES.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days of hire if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Performs a triad of difficult procedures (Head/Neck/Neuro/Spine/Ortho) with proficient/advanced knowledge.
• Adheres to safety standards and policies related to sterile processing and handling.
• Applies aseptic technique and corrects breaks promptly.
• Anticipates needs during surgery and responds to intraoperative crises.
• Maintains communication with the circulating nurse and team about patient status.
• Arranges and inventories sterile setup for the operation.
• Prepares for procedures with updated preference cards and instruments.
• Performs scrub duties, passes instruments, and assists with suturing.
• Prepares, cleans, and maintains surgical instruments and equipment.
• Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens as needed.
• Prepares operating room and sets up tables/instruments per case.
• Serves as a preceptor for students in training.
• Participates in evaluating and acquiring surgical equipment and supplies.
• Recommends and participates in process improvement projects.
• May mentor or lead other surgical technicians.
• May assist in circulating skills and tasks.
• Performs all duties as assigned.
