Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) is seeking a Project Consultant to apply engineering mechanics and finite element methods to challenging structural projects. You will work on buildings, bridges, pipelines, and other structures, with supervision and opportunities for independent work.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in structural engineering, a degree in engineering mechanics or structural engineering, and experience with Abaqus/ANSYS, MATLAB, and programming in Python or VBA.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience in structural engineering or engineering mechanics.
  • Education with emphasis on structural analysis, dynamics, or mechanics.
  • FEA experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analyses under supervision.
  • Design new structures and repair existing structures.
  • Conduct linear and nonlinear finite element analyses with supervision using Abaqus and ANSYS.
  • Work on routine problems independently and on project teams.
  • Assist in preparation of proposals, reports, calculations, drawings, and client communications.
  • Review work by technicians and others assisting the project team.
  • Conduct field inspections and support in-house lab work.
  • Conduct engineering calculations using MATLAB and Mathcad.
