Job description

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner - Pediatric Urology

The Department of Urology seeks to hire a motivated Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to function as an advanced practice provider and change agent incorporating the primary role of Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient care setting and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher, and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes for pediatric urology patients.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assure clinical competency and expertise in area of specialization.
  2. Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for pediatric urology patients.
  3. Collaborate with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
  4. Determine nursing care requirements and develop programs for urology patients, with regard to patient condition and age, and follow universal precautions.
  5. Promote health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena.
  6. Perform medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.
  7. Preform procedure consent and history and physicals (H&P) in urology clinic as desired.
  8. Provide anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
  9. Document patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
  10. Initiate and coordinate referrals to other health care team members or agencies.
  11. Serve in a consultative resource capacity by providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  12. Participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient/family educational needs.
  13. Provide education and serve as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise.
  14. Provide education to external agencies, community and other health professionals.
  15. Generate research questions regarding health care for particular patient populations.
  16. Incorporate research findings into practice.
  17. Participate in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
  18. Responsible for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
  19. Contribute toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals.
  20. Participate and contribute to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
  21. Participate in professional nursing activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations.
  22. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Required Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree required. Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. If Master’s is in a related field, BA degree in Nursing is required.
  2. Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required. Current Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certification or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) Certification and licensure as an ARNP in the state of Iowa is required.
  3. Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  5. Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Previous patient care experience in Urology.
  2. 1-3 years experience in an outpatient care setting.
