Overview

We seek an Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer to join our Global Manufacturing Excellence (GME) team within the Reliability Solutions Department (RSD). RSD provides engineering support across our facilities, including reliability, inspection, corrosion management, static and rotating equipment, electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.

Your main role will be to provide expert guidance in optimizing operations through APC technologies such as DMC3, PACE, or Profit Suite, and leading improvement initiatives across departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Align APC objectives with corporate goals, develop programs, best practices, and monitor KPIs to enhance APC and economic performance.
  • Analyze data from process variables, instrumentation, and control systems to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Develop inferential models to improve refinery efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Implement APC strategies, conduct feasibility studies, and establish business cases to optimize refinery operations and yields.
  • Evaluate new APC technologies like Real-Time Optimization, Machine Learning, and AI for yield improvement.
  • Identify and resolve complex APC issues to improve process operations and economic benefits.
  • Provide expert consultation to operations, maintenance, and engineering teams, including training and technical exchanges.
  • Lead technical reviews, model validation, and commissioning activities.
  • Assess the performance of real-time optimization solutions periodically.
  • Collaborate with the optimization team to meet project requirements.
  • Lead performance evaluations for APC technologies and monitor economic KPIs.
  • Review standards and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for GME departments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 15 years of reliability engineering experience in the downstream Oil and Gas industry; 20+ years preferred.
  • Expertise in APC, control systems, and OPC.
  • Strong understanding of refinery economics, mass and energy balances.
  • Knowledge of international standards for APC.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills in APC.
  • Leadership skills for managing technical teams and discussions.
  • Familiarity with oil/gas plant processes.
