UT Southwestern Medical Center's Onco-Primary Care Program seeks an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join our survivorship and primary care team. Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Primary Care (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine) with ability to independently manage patients with complex medical histories, including cancer survivorship and multiple chronic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The UT Southwestern Onco-Primary Care Program, part of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our growing survivorship and primary care team. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive outpatient care for adult cancer survivors, including adult survivors of childhood cancer, within a nationally recognized program that integrates survivorship care and primary care. The APP serves as a key clinical provider responsible for evaluating patients, managing acute and chronic medical conditions, providing risk‑based survivorship care, conducting cancer surveillance, interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and delivering patient and family education. Working closely with physicians, APPs, pharmacists, nurses, and supportive care teams, the APP will help patients navigate the long‑term effects of cancer and its treatment while ensuring comprehensive, longitudinal primary care. Candidates with prior primary care, internal medicine, family medicine, hospitalist, or complex chronic disease management experience are strongly preferred. Veterans are encouraged to apply.

Clinic Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Outpatient practice with no call, weekends, or holiday requirements.

Experience and Education

Minimum 3 years of experience in Primary Care (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine) with the ability to independently manage patients with complex medical histories, including cancer survivorship and multiple chronic conditions.

Education

Graduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC‑PA) accredited Physician Assistant program OR Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Licensure and Certification

Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
