Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas seeks an experienced Advanced Practice Provider to join the Community Oncology team at the RedBird location. The APP provides outpatient oncology/hematology care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Two years of oncology/hematology experience and NCCPA certification or Texas APRN with prescriptive authority required. ACLS is required. Schedule includes three 12‑hour shifts plus one 4‑hour shift weekly.

JOB SUMMARY

The Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Community Oncology team. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide outpatient oncology and hematology care in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment alongside physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and infusion staff.

The Community Oncology APP serves as a key clinical provider managing patients throughout the cancer care continuum. Responsibilities include independently evaluating patients in clinic, performing history and physical examinations, interpreting laboratory and diagnostic results, coordinating care, providing patient and family education, prescribing medications, and collaborating closely with physicians to deliver high-quality oncology and hematology care. APPs also provide acute patient support within the infusion center, including the evaluation and management of infusion reactions and other patient care escalations.

This position is primarily based at the RedBird Community Oncology location in South Dallas and is ideal for providers with at least two years of oncology and /or hematology experience who enjoy practicing in a community-based setting while remaining connected to a nationally recognized academic cancer center. Clinic Hours:

Primarily 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, consisting of three 12-hour shifts plus one 4-hour shift per week. Responsibilities include outpatient clinic and infusion center coverage. Voluntary cross-coverage opportunities may be available at other Community Oncology locations.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Experience

Minimum of two (2) years of oncology and /or hematology experience required.

Education

Graduate of a master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program. OR

Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Licensure and Certification

Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. OR

Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.

JOB DUTIES
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
