UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Urologic Oncology team. This is a primarily outpatient role providing comprehensive evaluations, treatment planning, and symptom management across the cancer care continuum.

Candidates with urology and/or oncology experience are preferred; new graduates are welcome. Texas APRN or PA licensure and ACLS certification are required for this fully outpatient

Qualifications

  • One or more years of urology experience preferred.
  • New graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing with Texas BON authorization, or ARC-PA PA program certification.
  • Licensure as APRN in Texas with prescriptive authority, OR PA licensure in Texas.
  • Current ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations by age and diagnosis.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates plans of care, including orders and interpretation of tests.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in procedures and clinical skills as appropriate.
  • Provides counseling and education to patients and families about care and prevention.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborates on research and protocols; supports multidisciplinary care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Urologic Oncology team. This is a primarily outpatient role supporting patients with urologic malignancies across the continuum of cancer care. The APP will provide comprehensive patient evaluations, develop and implement treatment and symptom management plans, interpret diagnostic studies, prescribe therapies in collaboration with the oncology team, coordinate multidisciplinary care, provide patient and family education, and support patients throughout their cancer journey. Candidates with urology and/or oncology experience are preferred; however, new graduates are welcome to apply. Ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient-centered care. Veterans are encouraged to apply.

Schedule

Monday-Friday with flexibility for four 10-hour shifts. This is a fully outpatient position with no operating room responsibilities. The role is primarily based at UT Southwestern with occasional support at the Frisco campus as needed.

Required
Experience and Education
Experience

One (1) or more years of urology experience preferred. Candidates with oncology, surgical, or related specialty experience will also be considered. New graduates are welcome to apply.

Education
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. OR
  • Graduate of a Master's degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. OR
  • Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board. AND
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Job Duties
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
