A Brief Overview
CHOP is hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to work on our Inpatient General Pediatrics team at Main Hospital.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 1 year of experience practicing as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

In collaboration with an attending physician, the Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the direct care and follow-up of a patient population that matches their delineation of privileges and skill set. This care is delivered in inpatient and hospital-outpatient settings. The role includes clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research. Acute/critical care education and certification may be required based on the scope of practice. The clinical responsibilities include managing high-acuity patients, utilizing invasive interventions, and performing procedures to promote stability. Off-shift responsibilities may include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, scheduled based on clinical needs.

What You Will Do

  • Assess complex acute, critical, and chronic patients for urgent and emergent conditions, using relevant data to evaluate physiologic stability and formulate a care plan.
  • Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize health problems, following approved scope of practice.
  • Evaluate indications, contraindications, risks, and benefits of interventions.
  • Manage care plans, monitor patient responses, and adjust as needed to optimize outcomes.
  • Incorporate health promotion, protection, and injury prevention into care plans.
  • Facilitate patient transitions across healthcare settings.
  • Serve as an educational resource and act as a consultant within the healthcare team.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, research, and ongoing professional development, including mentoring and precepting.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by reporting safety issues and participating in safety initiatives.

Education

  • Master's Degree in Nursing required.

Additional Education

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree for Physician Assistant.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree for Physician Assistant.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work effectively in a team with multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records.
  • Knowledge of clinical information systems, decision support tools, and confidentiality regulations.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse license (Pennsylvania or New Jersey) or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license, as applicable.
  • Prescriptive authority within 3 months of hire, as applicable.
  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) license for PAs, with requirements depending on state.

Additional Notes

All employees involved in patient care must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and receive annual influenza vaccines. Exemptions for medical or religious reasons may be requested. Start dates may be delayed pending immunization or exemption review.
