Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Belton, TX seeks a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to support psychiatric services at the Bell County Jail. Under Medical Director supervision, you’ll evaluate patients, order and interpret tests, and collaborate to develop treatment plans.

Preferred PMHNP certification for NP candidates; Texas license required or transferable. The role includes telepsychiatry clinics and a strong emphasis on patient care in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

• Texas license as Physician Assistant or ability to transfer license to Texas.
• Current RN license and Nurse Practitioner certification recognized by Texas Board of Nursing, or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Responsibilities

Employees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data-gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients at the Bell County Jail in Belton, TX under the direction and responsibility of a Physician.

Major/Essential Functions

• Under the supervision of the Medical Director, examines patients to determine general mental health and recommends or prescribes treatment in conjunction with other treatments. All protocols are followed in accordance with contractual agreements.
• Conducts regular telepsychiatry clinics - Patients' charts indicate guidelines for access to care have been met.

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants; OR
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.

Preferred Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner candidates must have Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification. Psych experience preferred for Physician Assistant candidates.
