Job description

Advanced Practice Provider

The Center for Occupational Medicine & Environmental Health Promotion, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant to join their team. Under indirect supervision, the ideal candidate will provide primary occupational health care, plus evaluation of some non-occupational health care in a clinic setting to a specified population of non-emergency patients. This person will supervise and coordinate clinic support staff as well as complete related administrative duties as delegated by the Medical Director. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work well within a team setting.

Under general supervision, provides independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population. Provides consultation and advice to others as a highly-specialized practitioner. May supervise support staff in an out-of-hours or remote clinical setting.

The Department of Internal Medicine is a large, progressive department with a diverse staff working in dedicated teams to provide quality work in an organized, effective and efficient manner through innovation, training, and education. Through our collaborative work effort, we support the faculty and enhance the missions of the department, school, Health Sciences Center and University.

Responsibilities
  • Provide primary occupational health care.
  • Evaluate non-occupational health care in a clinic setting.
  • Supervise and coordinate clinic support staff.
  • Complete related administrative duties as delegated by the Medical Director.
  • Provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a specified population.
  • Provide consultation and advice as a highly-specialized practitioner.
  • May supervise support staff in an out-of-hours or remote clinical setting.
Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination; candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.
  • Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant or State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.
  • Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in occupational injury evaluation and treatment.
  • Experience in primary care.
  • Experience in pre-placement/post job offer examinations and/or work-related medical surveillance examinations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners, department representatives, and patients.
