Summary
This is an open continuous announcement. Candidates will be referred every two weeks. Nurse Anesthesia is an advanced clinical nursing specialty based on a graduate-level curriculum focused on developing clinical judgment and critical thinking. CRNAs are qualified to render patients insensible to pain and emotional stress during surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, and invasive procedures utilizing general and regional anesthesia and all levels of sedation techniques.
Duties
- This position is located at the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
- The operating room includes 4 general operating rooms, 3 endoscopy suites, an SDU (pre-operative preparation area), and a PACU (post-operative care unit).
- Assigned duties include, but are not limited to: patient selection, anesthesia assessments, pre-operative evaluation, completion of patient evaluation forms, discussion of patient management with anesthesiologist, pre-operative orders, and patient education.
- Patient monitoring involves performing sedation (mild, moderate, and deep) and general anesthesia with minimal staff assistance, providing regional anesthetics with staff assistance, and restocking anesthesia equipment at the end of the day.
- Post-operative care includes arranging for monitored care with PACU/SICU nurses at case completion, entering follow-up notes for each patient, participating in the Total Quality Improvement Program, maintaining emergency equipment, responding to Code Blue/Emergency Airway calls as duties permit, and supervising postoperative analgesia.
- Administrative duties involve taking call with a second CRNA, participating in developing the call schedule, maintaining professional competence, credentials, and licensure, participating in hospital committees, assisting with supply ordering, maintaining familiarity with SOP/MCM/VA directives, and participating in orientation and instruction of students during clinical rotations.
