Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as an Advanced Pharmacy Technician in the Inpatient Pharmacy. As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician, you will support a team dedicated to enhancing lives and leading in healthcare. This department ensures the provision of safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution and reliable pharmaceutical care to diverse patient populations.

The role involves performing operational dispensing duties, including handling controlled substances, investigational drugs, and pharmacy purchasing, all in compliance with departmental policies to provide optimal patient care at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics.

Essential Job Functions

• Ensure safe, accurate, and timely pharmaceutical care and medication delivery, identifying customer requirements needing pharmacist or management attention.
• Assist other pharmacy technicians, train new employees, mentor as needed, and support pharmacists with entering physician orders.
• Prepare and deliver investigational drugs, controlled substances, and drugs used in the OR, maintaining Omnicell medication stock.
• Maintain controlled substance inventories, stock controlled substances, and manage returns and outdated medications under supervision.
• Support pharmacy operations and systems, lead process improvements, maintain equipment and technology, and review automation for performance and accuracy.
• Prepare IV additives using robotic systems.
• Answer and triage phone calls courteously, perform monthly inspections, maintain workload records, collect quality data, and perform other duties within legal scope.
• Perform additional duties, including Technician I and II tasks, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Valid Illinois pharmacy technician license and Certified Pharmacy Technician License.
• Experience/training as per one of the following:
• At least 5 years' inpatient hospital pharmacy technician experience, or
• Graduation from an ASHP-accredited program with 2+ years of inpatient experience, or
• At least 1 year at UCMC with excellent evaluations and no recent disciplinary actions, plus experience in a Pharmacy Clean Room.
• Knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, medications, regulatory requirements, and record keeping.
• Computer skills with a typing speed of 35 WPM.
• Excellent communication, independent work ability, attention to detail, mathematical skills, supervisory skills, and effective interaction.
• IV compounding experience.

Work is approximately 40 hours per week, with rotating days Monday-Friday and alternating weekends at the Hyde Park campus. No on-call shifts are anticipated.
