Job summary

Peraton is seeking a motivated Ocean Modeling and/or Data Assimilation Researcher to join our team at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) at Stennis Space Center. This role supports cutting-edge research focused on improving ocean model capabilities and assimilating new, high-resolution observational data to support ESPC and global forecasting systems.

Qualifications

• MS in Oceanography, Mathematics, Physics, or related field; PhD preferred.
• Proficiency in Fortran, Python, and MATLAB.
• Experience with Linux, shell scripting, VSCode, and HPC.
• Strong understanding of Numerical Methods, Ocean Modeling, and Data Assimilation.

Responsibilities

• Write and optimize Fortran code for Navy Data Assimilation systems.
• Develop code for ensemble-based data assimilation frameworks.
• Design schema for processing remotely sensed ocean observations.
• Create and test algorithms for operational and research-grade ocean models.
• Conduct evaluation and validation of model enhancements.
• Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
