Job summary

Hagyard Equine Medical Institute seeks a Laboratory Microbiology and PCR Technician to join the Hagyard Laboratory team. The role covers hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and special tests, with daily QC and cross-functional support.

The ideal candidate is a Medical Technologist or MLT with ASCP/AMT certification, or equivalent, and a willingness to work in an equine-focused clinical lab environment. Training opportunities, USDA/Coggins workflows, and collaborative teamwork are emphasized.

Qualifications

• Must be a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with ASCP/AMT certification or equivalent (on-the-job training acceptable).
• Preference for previous equine/animal laboratory experience.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures; strong documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory analysis across hematology, chemistry, coagulation, microbiology and special tests.
• Report results per established techniques and guidelines with QC checks.
• Provide support to all lab areas and assist with maintenance and inventory control.
• Train new employees and share technical information with staff and veterinarians.
