Job summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs in East Orange, New Jersey is seeking an Intermittent Medical Support Assistant (Advanced). This role provides administrative support for Eligibility, Emergency Room, and the Specialty Patient Aligned Care Team, coordinating with clinic staff to ensure smooth patient flow.

The Advanced MSA will maintain clear communication with patients and the care team, manage follow-up activities, and input patient data into the electronic health record.

Qualifications

• Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with team members to review clinic utilization and ensure that clinic setup supports patient care.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, interdisciplinary team, VA centers, and other agencies.
• Assist with communications with staff inside and outside the facility; process secure messaging; notify patients of lab results; manage follow-up tracking for consults and tests.
• Participate in team huddles/meetings to manage patient care, set priorities, and adjust workflow to meet patient needs.
• Enter information into the electronic health record; monitor pre-appointment requirements; manage electronic wait lists; support continuity of care.
