Job description

Position Overview

Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at North Carolina State University seeks an Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist. The role involves operating and maintaining specialized manufacturing equipment, supervising the hot press facility, and supporting research fabrication projects.

Responsibilities
  • Fabricate specialized components for research and course instruction, including machining, CNC programming, waterjet, laser cutting, and 3D printing.
  • Operate the Senior Design Laboratory and Research Fabrication Shop, working with the Laboratory Manager and Research Fabrication Facility Supervisor.
  • Provide lab safety training and maintain safety protocols in collaboration with Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain the Hot Press Facility, including machine logs, maintenance, and customer support.
  • Assist machine users with recipe and process development, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate repairs with OEM.
  • Adhere to regulatory requirements, inventory management, and reporting.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least two years of experience in advanced manufacturing; or equivalent education and training.
  • Knowledge of milling machines, lathes, grinders, waterjet, laser cutter, and 3D printers.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks for waterjet and 3D printing.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, using calipers, micrometers, and laser scanners.
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license (non‑commercial).
